1. Baby Shower Game: Don't Wake Up the Baby
Things needed: two baby rattles, some string
Choose two players who want to participate and tie one rattle on each player's knee. Both players go to one end of the room. The first person to reach the other end of the room and touch the wall without making any noise wins. Those who are watching have to keep an eye on the competitors to make sure they don't make a sound during the race. If one player makes a sound, send the person back to the starting line to start over. Also, players cannot touch the rattle with their hands. Repeat game with other players as desired.
2. Baby Shower Game: Milk Dash
Things needed: two empty baby jars, two coffee mugs filled with milk, two teaspoons, and two small tables.
This game is to be played outdoors. Place the tables about 10 feet apart. Place the two mugs and teaspoons on one table and the baby jars on the other. Two players have to spoon milk from the mug, run to the other table, and pour what's left of the milk into the baby jar. First person to fill his or her jar to overflowing is the winner. Reset and repeat with other players as desired.
3. Baby Shower Game: Blindfolded Feeding
Things needed: two individual serving sized pudding cups, two plastic spoons, four plastic trash bags, two cloths for blindfolds, newspaper (if playing indoors)
Pick two teams of two players (four total) to play. Cut a hole in the bottom of each trash bag big enough for a head to go through and give to each player to use as a makeshift bib to protect their clothing. Give one member of each team a cup of pudding and a spoon. The two feeders have to feed the pudding to their partner while blindfolded. The team who finishes their pudding first wins. If playing indoors, put newspaper on the floor under the players for an easy clean up.
4. Baby Shower Game: Guess Mom's Waistline
Things needed: two spools of differently colored ribbon, scissors
Pass out one spool of ribbon and the scissors and have each person cut out the length that he or she thinks will go around mom's tummy. When everyone has a piece of ribbon, have mom wrap the other colored ribbon around her tummy and cut the correct length. Pass it around and let everyone compare their ribbon. The person who comes closest to mom's correct size without going over wins.
5. Baby Shower Game: Shower Bag
Things needed: pencils/pens, paper, ten paper bags, ten items whose name begins with each letter of "Shower Bag" (example: Orange, Water balloon, Ear phones, Raisins, Ball, Apple, Glasses)
Put each item in its own bag and label the bag with the letter that each item's name begins with. Place the bags on the floor or table so they spell "Shower Bag." Each guest has to guess what is in each bag. They can feel the bag but not look inside it. The only clue is that the letter on the bag is the first letter of the item's name. Whoever has the most correct answers wins.
6. Baby Shower Game: Baby Animals
Things needed: pencils/pens, paper
Make a game sheet by listing baby animals in one column and their adult form in another column in random order. Make copies as needed. Each guest has one minute to match the babies to their mothers. Call out the correct answers. The person with the most matches is the winner.
7. Baby Shower Game: Baby Acronyms
Things needed: pens/pencils, paper
Come up with a list of six baby-related words such as milk, bottle, bootie, diaper, crib, and powder. Read your first word, and each player should write it down on their paper. Treat the word like an acronym and write a sentence where each letter of the word represents another word. For example, MILK could be "My Iguana Licked Karen." Players have one minute to think of and write a sentence. Continue with the rest of the words. Then people take turns reading their sentences and vote for their favorites.
8. Baby Shower Game: Mini Petting Zoo
Things needed: five pillow cases, pens/pencils, paper, and five different stuffed animals
Put each animal in a separate pillow case. Have everyone sit in a circle and pass around the pillowcases one at a time, telling everyone not to look inside. The point of the game is to identify each animal after petting it. The person with the pillowcase holds it for the person on the left to pet the animal inside. Pass to the right and continue. Players have to remember all the animals they petted. When done, collect the pillowcases and pass out pencil and paper so everyone can write down their guesses. Then show the animals. Player with the correct animals listed in the correct order wins.
9. Baby Shower Game: Pacify the Baby
Things needed: pacifier stickers, poster board, pen, cloth for a blindfold
Set up the game by drawing a picture of a baby on the poster board. If you're not an artsy person and can't draw a decent-looking baby, just print out a picture and paste it on the board. Stick the poster board on the wall at eye level. Give each person a pacifier sticker and tell them to write their initials on it. Each person takes a turn trying to pin the pacifier on the baby's mouth while blindfolded and 6 feet away. The player who lands closest to the baby's mouth wins.
10. Baby Shower Game: Paper Doll Babies
Things needed: blank paper for each player
Have all participants stand in a circle facing each other. Give each person a blank piece of paper to hold behind their back. Within four minutes, everyone folds, rips, and tears the paper into a shape that looks like a baby. Players cannot look at their paper to check their work, and if one does, then that person has to stop and turn in the baby as is. When done, display the babies in front and have mom or the group judge which is the best-looking baby.
11. Baby Shower Game: Maternity Fashion
Things needed: six rolls of toilet paper, three balloons
Divide players into three groups and give each group two rolls of toilet paper and a balloon. Each group has six minutes to dress a member of their team with the toilet paper without using anything like tape or pins to hold it together. The outfit must have the balloon to simulate a pregnant tummy. Mom gets to be the judge and pick the best outfit.
12. Baby Shower Game: Candy Wear
Things needed: lots of "O" shaped cereal, bag of string licorice, paper/plastic bowls
Give each participant a bowlful of cereal and a handful of string licorice. Each player has to string the cereal onto the licorice and make as many cereal necklaces, bracelets, anklets, belts, etc. as he or she can wear. The person wearing the most cereal by the end of the five minute time limit is the winner.
13. Baby Shower Game: Diaper Towers
Things needed: at least 70 diapers
Contestants compete to see who can build the tallest diaper tower. Take turns so the diapers can be reused. Record the number of diapers stacked. The tower has to stand for at least one second for the diaper to count as officially part of the tower. Remind people to treat the diapers gently and not unfold them because they will be recycled for actual use on the baby.
14. Baby Shower Game: Taste-Testing Baby Foods
Things needed: pens/pencils, paper, seven differently flavored baby foods (try to have each food group represented: dairy, fruits, vegetables, meat, grains and cereal), box of wooden sticks or mini tasting spoons
Cover the labels of each jar with paper and number them. Make a key of the foods for reference. Set the jars and the box of sticks on a table. Each person uses a new stick to dip into each jar to taste and writes down the food group it belongs to. The person with the most correct answers wins. Discard any leftover baby food.
NOTE: make sure that players don't have any food allergies or sensitivities.
15. Baby Shower Game: Predict Baby's Gender
Things needed: game sheet, pen/pencil
Guests take turns asking mom the questions below. Her answers are supposed to predict her baby's gender. The questions are based on old wives' tales. Circle mom's answer and tally them up at the end. The column with the most answers chosen is the predicted gender. Skip questions mom doesn't know.
